A little morsel of perfect humour. In the film Bottle Rocket, Owen Wilson’s and Wes Anderson’s first (and somewhat dubious, but I don’t care) foray into film, comes a moment of humour that gets me giddy with delight.
This scene says it all — Owen Wilson is quality all over. I yearn for him to stick to more performances like these, and not the trite rom-com characters he seems to play more often these days. They obviously pay a lot more.
My favourite part in this scene is the whole jumpsuit shutdown by the odious character, ‘Future Man’, played by Owen and Luke Wilson’s older brother, Andrew (three Wilson bros. in the same scene is priceless!). Actually, it’s more the response of Owen’s naive and bewildering character, Dignan that gets me every time. His response is barely audible, but it’s subtle humour at its finest, and the kind we see in the better Wilson/Anderson screenplays to come.
One of my favourite parts of the film.
