"She’s barefoot, wearing her own clothes, no makeup, and toting her own elegantly weathered monogrammed Alto bag. Yet Angelina Jolie looks radiant and completely in her element, reclining on a wooden boat in a verdant, lakeside landscape … People are not used to seeing Angelina in this situation. I like the fact that it’s a real moment.”
That was a spokesperson for Louis Vuitton. What on earth? This photo is undeniably beautiful. Annie Leibovitz has done an amazing job of shooting Jolie in the Cambodian landscape.
But honestly. This shot is anything but a real moment. Let’s not even get into the fact that she is clearly wearing makeup. Clearly been airbrushed. The woman is brandishing a $10,00+ bag on a river in a country which first inspired her ‘humanitarian interests’.
Most of LV’s ads feature heavily staged, carefully composed shots that don’t ever pretend to be anything else. Which is why they work. This is a whole other story.
